Cobbers Serve Notice At St. Ben's Quadrangular
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/16/13)—Concordia started its stretch run to the MIAC Championship Meet by winning five events and finishing second at the St. Ben's Quadrangular on Saturday. The Cobbers finished with 148 total teams points.
Morgan Christian is quietly collecting Cobber all-time top 10 marks in the middle distance events. A week after recording the sixth fastest time in the 800 meters, she won the 600 meters in a time of 138.83. That mark won the event and is the fifth fastest in school history. To put the cherry on top of the top-performance sundae, her time is tops in the MIAC this season.
Concordia senior All-American Kaari Jensen is starting to round into shape for her final indoor conference meet and earned one of the five event wins. She was one of just two athletes to capture a victory in a track event. Jensen raced to a 9.47 in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and won by .29 seconds. That time is a season best and the fifth fastest in the MIAC this year. It is also just .02 seconds off the time she ran in the NCAA Indoor Meet last season. Jensen was also third in the long jump with a season-best mark of 16-07.00.
A trio of Cobber field athletes are all starting to serve notice that they will have to be reckoned with at the conference meet in two weeks. Sophomore Cherae Reeves, fresh off a career-best performance at last week's Bison Open, won the shot put with a distance of 43-07.75. It is the second straight week she has thrown over 43-05.
Hilary Thompson and Chelsea Klemetson posted the other field event wins. Thompson came up with a distance of 34-11.00 in the triple jump. That mark is still shy of her MIAC-best distance of 36-02 but it would still be the second farthest in the conference this season. Klemetson shook off a recent slump in the high jump and cleared 5-05.00. That ties for the second best mark in the MIAC this year and is inching closer to her mark that won the conference indoor meet last year.
Concordia will look to continue their trend of improvement when they compete at the St. Olaf Open on Friday, Feb. 22.
