Cobbers Win Cobber Twilight

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/24/12)—Concordia's jump squad stole the show at the annual Cobber Twilight Meet as they catapulted CC to the team title on Tuesday. Concordia finished with 279.0 points, more than 115 above runner-up MSU Moorhead.  On one of the nicest days in the history of the meet, Concordia athletes captured six events wins and posted six all-time top 10 school marks.

Concordia athletes won the long jump, triple jump and high jump events and the Cobbers scored the top 4 finishers in each of the long jump and triple jump competitions.  Junior Katrina Gerzema made the biggest splash of the day as she won the long jump with a final distance of 18-01.50. That mark is currently the farthest in the MIAC this season and ties for the sixth best in program history. Gerzema was the top CC athlete in a contingent that finished 1-2-3-4 and placed six of the top seven in the event.

Concordia continued their dominance in the triple jump. Led by sophomore Hilary Thompson, Concordia had all seven of the top marks in the event. Thompson recorded a distance of 36-11.50 and won the event by a full foot. Kaari Jensen was second and Laura Farnam was third with a personal-best mark of 35-2.00. Thompson is currently ranked first in the triple jump in the MIAC.

Chelsea Klemetson completed the trio of jump winners for the Cobbers. She cleared 5-5.25 in the high jump to win the event by a full two inches. Her winning height ties for the top mark in the conference this season and ties for third on the school's all-time top 10 list. Jensen went over 5-1.25 and finished fifth in the event. She placed in the top 5 in four different field events at the meet. She was also second in the long jump and javelin. Her throw of 123-07.00 in the javelin is the eighth farthest in school history and currently the tops in the MIAC.

The Cobbers had a pair of all-time top 10 marks on the track side as well. Megan Hoffman clocked a 64.90 in the 400-meter hurdles and placed second in the event. Her time is the fifth fastest in school history. Morgan Christian was third in the 800 meters with the ninth fastest time turned in by a Cobber (2:18.65).

Kris Sather led a huge crew of Cobber runners in the 1500 meters. She won the event with a time of 4:52.84 and was one of nine CC athletes to compete in the event. Elisabeth Hanson won the Cobber-dominated 3000-meter steeplechase. She turned in a time of 12:04.51. That time is 12 seconds off her season-best time which has her ranked third in the MIAC this season.

The top Cobber relay at the Twligiht Meet came from the 4x800-meter quartet of Ana Sather, Callie Christianson, Hanson and Christian. They turned in a time of 9:37.54 which is No.10 on the school's all-time list and third fastest in the conference in 2012.

Concordia will continue the outdoor season by splitting their squad and heading out on the road to Des Moines, Iowa and Jamestown, N.D.  The Cobbers will have a small group participate in the prestigious Drake Relays while most of the team will compete at the Al Cassell Relays at Jamestown College.
