Same Cast Of Characters Helps Cobbers Finish Second At CSB
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (4/15/12)—It was the same cast of characters for the Cobbers at the St. Ben's Quadrangular. Kaari Jensen once again established herself as a conference favorite in the heptathlon and the Concordia field athletes stole the show as CC finished second.
Jensen won two-day CSB heptathlon event with a final total of 4,690 points. That total was over 700 points more than the nearest competitor and is the No.1 total in all of Division III this season. Jensen finished 15th in the heptathlon at the NCAA Meet last season. Her total at the CSB event is already 276 betters than her season best from 2011.
The Cobbers scored three different event wins in the field events at the St. Ben's Quadrangular and the 4x400-meter relay team also won. Fresh off being named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week, sophomore Hilary Thompson won both the long jump and triple jump. She recorded a distance of 17-08.00 in the long jump and then won the triple jump with a mark of 37-8.50. Her distance in the long jump is the top mark in the MIAC this season. She now owns the top conference mark in both the long jump and triple jump.
The other field event victory was posted by freshman Hilary Birchem who had a distance of 131-10.00 in the discus. That is a season best total for Birchem and the third farthest toss in the MIAC this season.
Chelsea Klemetson, Mary-Michael Vance, Morgan Bubach, Laura Gonshorowski, Sara Parsons, Katrina Gerzema and Laura Farnam all recorded top 3 finishes in field events.
The only track event win came from junior Megan Hoffman who clocked a time of 65.73 in the 400-meter hurdles. That is the second fastest time in the MIAC this season.
Top 3 track finishes were turned in by Morgan Christian, Kris Sather, Hannah Knickerbocker, Alexa Cole and Elisabeth Hanson.
Concordia will carry on with the spring season when they compete at the UM-Morris Open on Saturday, Apr. 21 beginning at 10 a.m.
