Roeske And Jensen Earn MIAC Year-End Awards
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/16/12)—Concordia head
coach Marv Roeske was named the MIAC Coach of the
Year and junior Kaari Jensen earned the Most
Outstanding Performance-of-the-Meet award. Roeske helped the
Cobbers finish second at the MIAC Championship Meet and Jensen
smashed the conference record in the heptathlon.
Roeske earns MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year honors
for the second time in his career. It is the the fifth time he has
earned either the outdoor, indoor or cross country Coach of the
Year award. Roeske helped the Cobbers finish second at the outdoor
meet after placing ninth at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet. The
second-place finish at the outdoor meet marks the 23rd consecutive
season that Concordia has finished in the top 5 at the meet. It was
the team' highest league finish since the 2004 season when they won
the conference championship.
Roeske oversaw a team that produced four individual champions and
a relay team that broke a school record at the conference outdoor
meet. CC athletes won titles in the 400-meter hurdles, javelin,
high jump and heptathlon and the 4x800-meter relay team broke the
15-year-old program record.
Jensen earned the Most Outstanding Performance-of-the-Meet award
for her incredible showing in the heptathlon. She blew away the
competition in the event and set a new MIAC as well as breaking the
Cobber program mark. Jensen's final total of 4,829 points broke the
old MIAC record of 4,668 points which was set in 2005 by Ashley
Dingels of St. Mary's. Jensen's total is the second highest in NCAA
Division III this year. She also edged former teammate Leah Kay's
school record of 4,812 points which was set back at the 2010 NCAA
Championship Meet.
Jensen set personal best marks in three of the seven events. She
also had the best marks of any competitor in the field in five of
the seven events.
