A Split On Superior

VIRGINIA, Minn. (04/03/22)---Concordia won two of the three doubles matches and all six singles bouts as they cruised past Wis.-Superior 8-1 to gain a split in their two matches along the shores of Lake Superior.

The Cobbers fell 8-1 to St. Scholastica in the lone conference match of the weekend on Saturday. CC then responded by claiming their third win in the last four matches with their commanding 8-1 victory over the Yellowjackets. All three of CC's wins during that stretch have been by identical 8-1 margins.

Concordia is now 7-10 in dual matches this year. The seven wins are the most since the Cobbers won 13 during the 2012 season.

Freshman Erin Borchard was the only Cobber to win both of her singles matches on the weekend. She captured the only team point against St. Scholastica. Borchard won the first set at No.6 singles 6-1 and then had her opponent retire in the second set.

Borchard made it back-to-back wins on Sunday when she claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No.6 singles against Superior. The win was Borchard's ninth singles victory of the year. She is now 9-2 in her first college tennis season.

Borchard also teamed with Katie Miller to record one of the two doubles wins. The duo posted an 8-4 victory at No.3 doubles.

The other doubles win on Sunday came from the No.1 tandem of Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich who cruised to an 8-2 victory.

Egge and Skorich also won their singles bouts. Egge came up with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win at No.1 singles. The win upped her season record to 7-10. Skorich posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No.3 singles, and like Borchard, now has nine singles wins on the year and is 9-8 in 2022.

Hacker and Allan also won in straight sets. Hacker put up a 7-5, 6-1 win at No.4 singles, while Allan went 6-3, 6-1 at No.5 singles.
