Orlando, Fla.(02/28/22)---Cobbers like outside tennis. After failing to grab a win in the first three matches of the year – all played inside – Concordia used the warmth and sunshine of Florida to post a 6-3 win over Wartburg in the first match of their annual spring trip to the Sunshine State.

The Cobbers recorded wins in two of the three doubles bouts, and in four singles matches, as they beat the Knights to record their first win of the season.

Concordia (1-3) started the trip to Florida by getting wins from the No.1 doubles team of Raquel Egge and Anna Hacker and the No.2 tandem of Emily Savageau and Mary Skorich. Egge and Hacker came away with the tightest doubles match of the day as they were able to get one extra break and won 8-6. Savageau and Skorich were in control throughout their match and recorded an 8-4 victory.

Hacker and Skorich would become the Cobbers only 2-win players of the match. Hacker needed the super-set tie-breaker to pick up a 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 win at No.3 singles. It was Hacker's first singles win of the year.

Skorich also earned her first singles win of 2022 when she came through with a 6-0, 6-3 straight set victory at No.4 singles.

Hacker and Skorich started the Cobbers' singles winning spree and Abby Westrum and Erin Borchard finished it off.

Westrum posted a convincing 6-4, 6-3 win at No.5 singles, while Borchard cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No.6 singles. The victory was Westrum's second in singles play this season which ties her for the team lead. Borchard's win was her first collegiate victory.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a pair of matches on Tuesday, Mar. 1. They will play Houghton (N.Y.), in a match that was postponed from Monday, at 7 a.m. and then face Adrian (Mich.) at 2 p.m.
