ORLANDO, Fla. (3/2/20)—It was an exciting day of tennis under the sun as Concordia began their spring break campaign in Florida on Monday. The Cobbers squared off against two solid non-conference teams and came away with individual and doubles highlights.

North Central (Ill.) 8 Concordia 1
 Junior Jenna Forknell gained the lone win for the Cobbers against North Central (Ill.) on Monday afternoon outside of Orlando.

The Fargo Davies product dropped the first set of her match at No.2 singles 7-5 but then got acclimated to the hot Florida sun and roared back to capture the overall win. After the first set Forknell picked up her game and gained a 6-3 win in the second set. The final tie-breaker set went back-and-forth with neither player wanting to conceded a break but it was Forknell who pulled away at the wire to seal the match with a 12-10 victory.

Sophomore Brianna Bell also competed in a tight match. After losing the first set in her battle at No.6 singles the Wahpeton native fought back and won the second set in a tie-breaker. The decidi9ng super tie-breaker was close throughout the set but Bell came up on the short end of a 10-6 decision.

Ohio Northern University 6 Concordia 3
 The Cobbers picked up their play in the nightcap against Ohio Northern. Concordia had quality play in both singles and doubles but it wasn't enough as the Polar Bears froze the Cobbers to come away with a  6-3 win.

Concordia wanted to take the early momentum in the match so they switched up the top of their doubles lineup and it paid off when the No.1 doubles team of Raquel Egge and Izzi Nankivel earned a convincing 8-4 win. It was the first time the two had played in a doubles match together this season. The victory was Egge's second doubles win on the year and Nankivel's third.

The No.2 doubles tandem was also a brand new pairing. Forknell and Carolyn Voss put up a strong fight but dropped their match by a score of 8-6.

Egge and Forknell then protected the top of the singles lineup by coming away with wins at No.1 and No.2 singles. Egge rolled to her fifth singles win of the season by posting a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No.1 spot.

Forknell then matched Egge as she cruised to a straight set win and also gained her team-leading fifth singles win of the year. Forknell fought off a challenge in the first set with a 7-5 win. The victory stole the momentum in the bout and Forknell then coasted to a 6-1 win in the second set. Forknell is now 5-4 on the year but has found her stride in the Florida sun. She is now 2-0 to start her spring break.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will look for their first team win in Florida when they take on Midway (Ky.) on Tuesday, Mar. 3 at 2 p.m at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Eagles are 4-5 on the year.
