Tough Road Trip Opens Non-Conference Play
DULUTH, Minn. (2/16/14)—Concordia capped off its first back-to-back road trip of the year by falling to St. Scholastica 9-0. The Cobbers lost both matches on the weekend and are now 0-3 to start the 2014 season.
On Saturday Concordia started the road trip by playing NCAA Division II squad St. Cloud State in Sartell. CC wasn't able to come up with a singles or doubles win and fell 9-0 to the 5-2 Huskies.
The closes individual match against St. Cloud State came at No.4 singles where junior Kaitlyn Davies dropped a tight 6-4, 6-3 decision. The No.1 doubles team of Morgan Sawatzke and Jade Haseltine lost 8-3 while the newly formed pairing of Brittany Glatt and Celia Peloquin lost 8-2 at No.3 doubles.
Sunday's match was much closer against the Saints who are now 3-1 on the season. The top three singles matches were closely contested with all three having a chance to come away with a set victory. Glatt lost 6-2, 6-3 at No.1 singles while Haseltine dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match at No.2 singles and Davies went 6-3 and 6-1 at No.3 singles.
Concordia will return to play in the MIAC when they face defending MIAC playoff champion Carleton on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Owatonna. The Cobbers will then head to Florida for their annual spring break training trip.
