Davies Finds Her Pot 'O Gold Against St. Ben's

FARGO, N.D. (3/16/13)—Sophomore Kaitlyn Davies had a very lucky St. Patrick's Day as she won both her singles and doubles matches for the Cobbers in their 7-2 loss against St. Ben's on Saturday.

Davies earned her first wins of the season in singles and doubles but they weren't enough as Concordia lost for the ninth straight time to start the 2013 season. The Blazers win for the second straight match and are now 4-2 on the season.

Davies teamed with Morgan Sawatzke to pick up the only doubles win of the match for CC. The No.3 doubles team claimed an 8-5 victory. The pair has been on the upswing in their last four matches. In addition to their first win of the year against St. Ben's, the duo lost a pair of very tight 8-6 decisions in two of their last four matches.

Davies carried the momentum from doubles play over to her No.4 singles match where she won 7-6 (4), 6-3. Like her doubles play, Davies has steadily improved over the course of the first month of play. Despite not winning before Saturday, she had gone to the super-set tie-breaker in two of her last three matches.

Sawatzke dueled through the closest singles match of the night. She entered singles play having won two of her final four matches but lost a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 decision at No.6 singles.

Concordia will now have a three-week break before returning to action against St. Thomas on Sunday, Apr. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
