Rognlien Named MIAC Athlete of the Week!

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/21/12)—Concordia senior Andrea Rognlien (Fargo, N.D./Oak Grove HS) was named the MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Rognlien, the team's No.1 singles player, went 2-0 over the weekend.

The weekly award is the first of Rognlien's career and she becomes the first Cobber tennis player to ever win the award.

Rognlien posted two impressive wins over the weekend. She downed the No.1 singles players from No.15-ranked Gustavus and St. Thomas. Rognlien got off to a good start on Saturday by scoring the Cobbers only individual win in a loss at Gustavus. She scored a 6-2, 7-5 victory over the Gusties' Megan Gaard to give Concordia its lone point in the 8-1 setback.

Against St. Thomas on Sunday Rognlien contributed two of the Cobbers' three points in a 6-3 loss. She won her No. 1 singles match, only losing two games in the 6-1, 6-1 victory, and she teamed with Emma Koskiniemi to score an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. This season, Rognlien is just one of two MIAC players with perfect 4-0 records at No. 1 singles, and she has a 2-2 record in the Cobbers' top doubles spot.
