Best For Last At MIAC Meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/15/20)--- Concordia finished the MIAC Championship Meet by posting their two best finishes of the 4-day event. The Cobbers placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle on Friday night and then posted an eighth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay in the final event of the meet on Saturday night.

The two relay finishes helped the Cobbers end the meet in 10th place in the overall team standings. Concordia finished with 64 team points.

Concordia's best finish of the meet came in the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lydia Larson, Alexandra Rasmussen, Jessica Bray and Anna Backes swam a 1:44.47 which was almost 5-seconds faster than their previous season best time.

The Cobbers then finished the meet on a high note by placing eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The same four athletes from the 200-yard free relay duplicated their roles and touched the wall in 3:47.39. That mark is a 21.41 second time drop off their previous season low time.

Concordia also earned relay points from the 400-yard medley relay quartet of Kaitlin Cramer, Allison Marcus, Rasmussen and Larson who clocked a 4:27.05 and finished ninth in the event.

The Cobbers recorded eight Top 25 finishes in individual events at the meet and were led by Backes and Marcus who each came away with two Top 20 finishes.

Backes placed 19th in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 1650-yard freestyle. She came up with a time of 2:01.80 in the 200-yard freestyle which was over an 8-second season best and her time of 19:02.51 in the 1650 was a drop of over 50 seconds. Backes also placed 23rd in the 500-yard freestyle on Thursday.

Marcus made her mark in both breaststroke events. She placed 19th in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished 20th in the 200-yard breaststroke. Both of her finishing times were season bests. She clocked a 1:14.69 in the 100-yard breaststroke and touched the wall in 2:43.96 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The other Top 25 finishes for the Cobbers were turned in by Lindsey Biebl, Rasmussen and Cramer.

Biebl had her top event in the 200-yard backstroke where she swam a season-best 2:33.80 and placed 24th. Rasmussen was 23rd in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best mark of 1:06.88 while Cramer came home in a season-best time of 1:04.57 and was 21st in the 100-yard backstroke.
