Many MIAC Qualifying Marks At Morris

MORRIS. Minn. (1/25/20)---Concordia had several MIAC meet qualifying times as they swam a dual meet at Minn.-Morris. The Cobbers, who returned to the competitive pool for the first time since Dec. 7, won three events but lost 124-69 to the Cougars.

The Cobbers had a pair of swimmers win individual events and the 800-yard freestyle relay team win the final event of the meet.

Anna Backes started the nine individual swimming events at the meet by winning the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 19:57.80. Her time is in the Top 20 of the MIAC this season and over 4-seconds faster than her seed time at last year's conference meet.

Freshman Kaitlin Cramer was second in the 1650 with a time of 20:06.84. That time qualifies for the MIAC meet is also in the Top 20 in the MIAC. Her runner-up finish was one of two on the day for Kramer. She also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:25.07 which is also a conference meet qualifying time.

Junior Allison Marcus claimed the other individual event win for the Cobbers. She touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her winning time of 2:50.27 won the event by over 10 full seconds and is an MIAC qualifying mark.

Marcus was also second in the 400-yard individual medley at 5:28.80. That time is also inside the MIAC qualifying mark of 5:37.48.

Alexandra Rasmussen had two Top 3 sprint freestyle finishes. She was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.75 and clocked a 27.24 in the 50-yard freestyle and placed third.       

Lindsey Biebl and Lydia Larson had the other Top 3 finishes in events with more than five athletes for the Cobbers. Biebl was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:15.38 and Larson was second in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 27.13. Both times for Biebl and Larson qualify for the MIAC Championship Meet.  

The Cobber 800-yard freestyle relay team of Audrey Zeleny, Backes, Cramer and Rasmussen sent CC out with momentum as they won the event in a time of 8:56.88. That mark is the sixth fastest in the conference this season and fastest mark by a CC quartet this year.
