A Long-Awaited Home Opener
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/02/19)---Concordia returned to competition after a 2-week break and battled Minn.-Morris in the home-opening dual meet of the season.
The Cobbers had had three athletes earn individual event victories but it wasn't enough as they fell 149-69 to the Cougars.
The event wins came from freshman Kaitlin Cramer, sophomore Alexandra Rasmussen and junior Anna Backes.
Cramer claimed a victory in the first individual event of the afternoon. She swam a 11:59.49 in the 1000-yard freestyle and won the event by over 35 seconds. Cramer also had a runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke where she clocked a season-best time of 1:08.55 and was out touched at the wall – losing by a mere .33 of a second.
Rasmussen's win came in the 100-yard freestyle. She used a finishing kick to touch the wall in a time of 58.97. That time is her fastest of the season and she was the only swimmer in the race to break the 1-minute mark. Rasmussen was also second in the 50-yard freestyle. She posted a mark of 26.81 and was edged by only .05 of a second.
Backes claimed the victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:51.37. She was the only sub 6-minute finisher in the race. Backes then recorded a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke which was the final individual swimming event of the meet. She raced to a time of 1:22.10.
Freshman Jessica Bray had the other Top 2 finish for Concordia. She went runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:11.15. Bray was also third in the 50-yard freestyle. She finished .84 of a second behind Rasmussen with a time of 26.81.
UP NEXT: Concordia will now have a month-long break for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Cobbers will return to the pool to compete against the University of Mary in a dual meet on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m.
