Warren & Relays Top Day 1 At MIAC

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/15/19)---Sophomore Amy Warren broke her own school record and Concordia used the strength of their relay teams to score 70 team points and get into eighth place in the team standings after the first full day of competition at the MIAC Championship Meet.

Warren was the top finisher for the Cobbers on Friday as she swam a 2:14.84 in the prelims of the 200-yard individual medley and finished in 17th place. Her time was a mere .14 of a second off the final qualifier for the "B" final. Warren's time in the prelims broke her own school record in the event of 2:17.13 which she set last year at the conference meet.

This year's meet started on Thursday to give the swimmers a full day of rest after the 800-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays. Concordia finished seventh in both events on Thursday. The quartet of Warren, Anna Backes, Alexandra Rasmussen and Alaina Dehnke touched the wall in 8:17.31 in the 800-yard freestyle relay which was a season-best time by almost 14 seconds.

Abby Bartosiewski, Ciara White, Rasmussen and Backes then nearly broke the school record in the 20-yard medley relay. The relay team finished in a time of 1:53.55 which was only .01 of a second away from the program record.

On Friday the relay spotlight turned to the 400-yard medley race. Concordia sent out Dehnke, White, Warren and Backes and the foursome sprinted to a time of 4:09.49 which was good for eighth place. Their time was only .07 seconds off the school mark of 4:09.42 set last year at the meet.

Dehnke, Rasmussen and White had Top 30 finishes in the prelims on Friday afternoon. Dehnke recorded a career-best time in the 500-yard freestyle and Rasmussen and White finished in a dead heat in the 50-yard freestyle.

Dehnke swam a 5:27.26 in the 500-yard freestyle and finished 24th. Her previous season best time was 5:38.93. Rasmussen and White both clocked a 26.55 in the 50-yard freestyle and tied for 30th place. Both athletes came away with season best times in the meet.

UP NEXT: Concordia will continue with the newly-formatted 4-day MIAC Championship Meet when they hit the pool on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 10:30 a.m. for the prelims and then at 6:30 p.m. for the finals. Both events will be held at the University of Minnesota.
