Seniors Shine On Senior Night

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/25/19)---Concordia started the annual Senior Night meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay and had two of their three seniors win individual events but wound up falling to Minn.-Morris 127-96 in the final home meet of the season.

Seniors Alaina Dehnke and Ciara White capped their Cobber home careers by winning the final two individual races of the night. Dehnke stepped up to the blocks and raced to a 5:38.93 in the 500-yard freestyle and won the event by almost a full 10 seconds.

White followed Dehnke's victory by clocking a 2:37.58 in the 200-yard breaststroke which won the race by almost 20 seconds.

Dehnke also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best time of 1:04.26 while White swam the second leg of the victorious 200-medley relay team which kicked off the dual meet.

White was joined by Abby Bartosiewski, Alexandra Rasmussen and Katelynn Smith as the quartet posted a time of 2:00.80 and won the opening race by 1.07 seconds.

Concordia's third senior, Jordyn Templeton, recorded a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle as she touched the pad in 31.85.    

Sophomore Amy Warren, who was the Cobber Athletics Athlete of the Week last week, was the only swimmer to claim a pair of event wins in the meet. She won the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:23.86 and backed that up with a win in the 100-yard freestyle. Warren touched the wall in a time of 57.94 which was .14 of a second faster than the second-place finisher and only .05 of a second off her season best.

Anna Backes was the final member of the Cobber individual event win quartet. Backes followed the 200-yard medley relay win and came home with a victory in the 1650-yard freestyle. Backes swam a 20:01.87 which won the race by 3.55 seconds.     

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off their "regular season" when they travel across 8th street to compete against MSU Moorhead in a dual meet on Friday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.
