Warren Shines In Home Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/17/18)---Concordia hosted its home opener and fell 185-65 to NCAA Division II University of Mary in a dual meet on Saturday.  

Sophomore Amy Warren claimed the only event win for the Cobbers as she won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:22.09. Warren also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. She clocked a season-best 57.89 in the 100-yard freestyle and touched the wall in 1:05.12 in the 100-yard butterfly.

The 100-yard freestyle was the top individual event for the Cobbers. Concordia had five swimmers in the Top 6 of the event. Besides Warren's second-place finish, Anna Backes placed third at 58.64, Abby Bartosiewski was fourth at 58.88, Katelynn Smith was fifth in a time of 59.22 and Alexandra Rasmussen was sixth at 59.73.

Bartosiewski had a second-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke. She shaved almost three seconds off her best time of the year and touched the wall in 31.30. Rasmussen was right behind in the event as she finished third with a season-best mark of 32.06.   

Senior Alaina Dehnke recorded a pair of second-place finishes. She was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:07.79 and also second in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:06.32.

Allison Marcus and Ciara White had the other final runner-up finishes for Concordia. Marcus was second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:18.75. Senior Jordyn Templeton was third in the event at 1:24.28.     

White posted her second-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke. She came home in a season-best time of 34.14.

Perhaps the top event of the day came in the opening race where the quartet of Dehnke, White, Bartosiewski and Warren all had solid split times in the 400-yard medley relay. The group posted a time of 4:21.23.   
         
UP NEXT: The Cobbers will have a 2-week break for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action at the Cobber/Dragon Invite at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
