Near Record & MIAC Top 25 Marks

BISMARCK, N.D. (11/18/17)-- Amy Warren, Anna Backes and Ciara White all recorded second-place finishes in individual events in the Cobbers' dual meet at the University of Mary.

Concordia wasn't able to win an event and lost the team dual meet in a 160-75 loss to the Marauders.

Warren and Backes both had a pair of runner-up finishes at the dual meet.  Warren was second in both the 50-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Warren swam a 33.65 in the 50-yard breaststroke to finish second but it was her finishing time in the 200-yard individual medley that has head coach Gary Fisher excited about the future.

Warren clocked a 2:18.51 in the 200-yard individual medley which is only .31 of a second off the Concordia school record. Her time is also the fastest of the season by almost a full three second and is the fifth fastest in the conference this year.

"It's only a matter of time until Amy breaks the school record," Fisher said. "She has been really improving in practice and her times will continue to get better. I was hoping she would break the record today because she was swimming in her home pool."

Warren swam for Bismarck Century in high school and was competing in the pool she swam in during her high school career.

Warren was also third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:13.46. Her time is a season best and in the Top 20 of the MIAC this season.

Backes earned her two second-place point totals in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. She swam a 26.44 in the 50-yard freestyle and lost by a mere .19 of a second. Two events later Backes touched the wall in 58.05 in the 100-yard freestyle to earn her second runner-up finish. Her time in the 50-yard freestyle was a season best by .13 of a second.

White was second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.21. She also competed in the 200-yard freestyle and swam a 2:15.37. Both of White's finishing times are season bests. Her mark in the 100-yard breaststroke gets her into the Top 15 of the MIAC.

Freshman Hannah Murray was the Cobbers' lone entrant in the two distance freestyle events. She clocked a season-best time of 12:41.68 in the 1,000-yard freestyle in the second event of the meet and then recorded a time of 6:10.12 in the final individual event of the day.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will have a two-week break for the Thanksgiving break before returning to action on Dec. 1-2 in the Cobber/Dragon Invite. The meet will be the very first event held at the brand new Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo.
