Cobbers Have A Spooktacular Season Opener

ABERDEEN, S.D. (10/31/14)—Concordia opened the 2014 season by trick-or-treating against Northern State in a dual meet. Sophomore Jackie Hanson won the 100-yard freestyle as the Cobbers fell 137-58.

Hanson, one of seven newcomers on Concordia this season, swam a 58.74 in the 100-yard freestyle to win the event by almost a full two seconds. She was the only event winner for CC on the day. Hanson also finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a finishing mark of 1:18.04.
 
Several other Cobber newcomers posted top 3 finishes on Halloween in South Dakota. Ann Marie O'Connell finished third in the two distance races in the meet. She swam a 20:26.58 in the 1650-yard freestyle – the second event of the meet and then posted a 5:52.90 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Siri Berry placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.70. She also finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 27.86. Sarah Nelson was third in the in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.32) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:58.74).

Jordyn Olson and the two Johnsons – Madeline and Lily - paced the returning swimmers for Concordia. Olson came home in second place in 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:31.68 and fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle at 20:55.91. Madeline Johnson earned the team's other runner-up finish when she swam a 1:07.60 in the 100-yard backstroke. Lily Johnson was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.90) and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:05.68).

The Cobbers will step back into the pool on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they swim at MSU-Moorhead in a dual meet at 6 p.m.
