Relays Start And Finish Dual-Meet Win

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/24/14)—Joleen Baker, Madeline Johnson and Megan Obrecht posted individual event wins, the Cobbers won both relay events and came away with their first dual-meet win of the season as they beat Hamline 148-83.

Concordia started and ended the meet with wins in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay. The Cobber team of Greta Titus, Obrecht, Libby Hardwick and Rachel Aldinger swam a 2:06.22 in the 200-yard medley relay to win the opening event and then Andrea Kittleson, Kelsey Appert, Baker and Alexis Philbrick closed out the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:48.94.

In between the two relay wins Concordia received wins in four different individual events and a slew of top three finishes in all 12 races.

The top events for the Cobbers were the 50 and 100-yard freestyles. CC recorded 1-2-3-4 finishes in both races. Baker won both events to lead the Concordia sprint crew. Baker swam a 26.67 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 58.19 in the 100-yard freestyle. Philbrick was second in both races. She clocked a 28.26 in the short race and a 1:00.75 in the 100-yard edition. Diana Kempenich was third in the 50-yard freestyle and Appert was third in the 100-yard race.

Johnson earned her victory in the 200-yard freestyle. She won the event in a time of 2:09.42. Hardwick was third in the race at 2:16.17.

Obrecht was the winner of the 100-yard breaststroke and one of three CC swimmers who placed in the top 3 of the race. Obrecht's time of 1:15.43 was almost five seconds faster than teammate Hannah Winge who finished second. Kasey Lyng was the third Cobber swimmer in the top 3.

Jana Hedstrom was second in the 1-meter event and third in the 3-meter competition.

Concordia will finish off the regular season when they compete at the St. Catherine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 25 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
