Hedstrom Helps Cobbers Cap Regular Season

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/25/14)—Concordia completed its final weekend of the "regular season" by finishing fourth at the St. Kate's Invitational. Sophomore diver Jana Hedstrom posted the only two top 3 finishes for the Cobbers at the meet.

Less than 24 hours after posting its first dual-meet win of the season, Concordia participated in its final multi-team invitational. The Cobbers finished the meet with 337 total team points.

Hedstrom finished the day contributing the most team points. She finished second in the 3-meter competition and was third in the 1-meter event. She had 332.90 points in the 3-meter which was only 3.7 points behind the winner of the event. Her final score in the 1-meter was 361.45. That mark was 3.0 points out of second place and less than 14 points from first place.

Megan Obrecht recorded the only top 5 finish by a Cobber swimmer at the meet. She swam a 2:44.41 in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished in fifth place.

Hannah Winge was seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:17.05. She also placed ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a final time of 2:48.57. Madeline Johnson also had a seventh-place finish on the day. She completed the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:28.36. Teammate Jordyn Olson was right behind in eighth place with a mark of 2:30.52.

The top swimming event for Concordia at the meet was the 200-yard butterfly where CC had five athletes record a 6-7-8-9-10 finish. The quintet of Rachel Aldinger, Kasey Lyng, Abbey Benson, Kelsey Appert and Diana Kempenich all finished within 13.91 seconds of one another. Aldinger led the way with a mark of 2:43.19.

The Cobbers' top relay at the meet was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Andrea Kittleson, Alexis Philbrick, Greta Titus and Joleen Baker. The CC relay team swam a season-best 1:47.47 and placed fourth out of 16 teams.

Concordia will have a three-week break to train before finishing the season at the MIAC Championship Meet on Feb. 13-15 at the University of Minnesota.
