Hedstrom And Obrecht Go Career In Collegeville

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (11/22/13)—Career performances from Jana Hedstrom and Megan Obrecht helped Concordia post five top 3 finishes at the St. Ben's/St. Catherine double dual on Friday at St. John's. Hedstrom won the 1-meter diving competition while Obrecht was third in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.

No team scores were available when this recap was posted on the web.

In addition to the quintet of top 3 finishes, the Cobbers came away with 10 top 5 finishes in their fifth meet of the year. Hedstrom matched Obrecht's twin top 5 finishes by taking second in the 3-meter diving event. Junior diver Kayla Rauchwarter was the only other Concordia athlete to have two top 5 finishes at the meet. She was fifth in the 1-meter and fourth in the 3-meter events.

Hedstrom posted a score of 223.50 in the 1-meter competition which bettered her previous career best in the 1-meter by a full 11 points. Her finishing total was also 11.65 points better than the next highest finisher in the event. Hedstrom then went out and recorded a total 175.40 in the 3-meter to earn the runner-up finish.

Obrecht has steadily improved throughout her two collegiate seasons. She earned a spot in the MIAC Championship Meet as a freshman and swam a 1:14.68 in the prelims of the 100-yard breaststroke. Obrecht bested that mark by racing to a 1:13.81 and finishing third at the CSB/SCU dual. Obrecht finished off her day by recording a time of 2:44.18 in the 200-yard breaststroke which was also good for third place.

The other top 3 finish at the meet belonged to freshman Diana Kempenich. Kempenich clocked a 2:45.99 in the 200-yard butterfly and touched the wall in third place.

Greta Titus, Jordyn Olson and Joleen Baker were the remaining CC swimmers to place in the top 5 of an event. Titus was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke while Olson was fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle and Baker earned a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

Concordia will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and then return to competition when they host UM-Morris in a dual meet on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
