Hehn Named New Swimming And Diving Head Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/25/13)— Concordia-Moorhead Athletic Director Rich Glas announced that Ronald Hehn has been named as the new Cobber swimming and diving head coach. Hehn becomes just the third coach of the Concordia swimming and diving program since the program started in 1996. He takes over for Julie Lucier who completed her 14th season with the Cobbers.

"Ronald has a great passion for swimming and diving," said Glas. "His tremendous background in the sport, competitive experience and academic excellence made him stand out from the other candidates."

Hehn, who was the Salutatorian from Moorhead High School in 2004, was an All-American at Indiana University. He was part of the Hoosiers Big Ten Championship team in 2006 and went on to earn All-American honors in 2008. Hehn was a part of the 200-medley relay team which broke the Indiana school record. He went on to qualify for the Olympic Trials in 2008 in the 100-meter breaststroke and once again qualified for the trials in 2012.

In addition to his outstanding athletic background, Hehn was an Academic All-American and named the Indiana Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2004. He was also named a Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Scholar and graduated with a 3.40 grade point average while majoring in Classical Studies – Latin and Greek – and Philosophy. He also had a minor in Religious Studies.

"I am very excited about being named as the new swimming and diving head coach," commented Hehn. "The school has a great academic reputation and has shown the ability to produce successful athletic teams."

Hehn is the founder of the DakotaSota Swim Club in Fargo and has been involved with the club since 2009. Hehn was also an instructor for the Marlins Swim Team in Moorhead. During his tenure with the DakotaSota Swim Club he was in charge of assessing swimming ability, diagnosing physical strengths and weaknesses and developing individualized training programs.

"While my head coaching experience is not extensive, I feel my background and knowledge of the sport will help me be successful at the college level," commented Hehn.

Hehn was the Minnesota Class AA State Champion in the 100-yard breaststroke in 2003. He was also a two-time High School All-American and a school record holder in the 200-yard individual medley.

Hehn begins his swimming and diving coaching duties on June 1.

Hehn currently lives in Fargo, N.D.
