Cobbers Cross 8th Street

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/19/13)—Concordia traversed the five blocks across 8th street to compete in the annual Dragon/Cobber Invite on Friday and Saturday. The Cobbers used the penultimate regular-season meet to get ready for the upcoming MIAC Championship Meet.

"I am very happy with how our swimmers and divers competed at the meet," commented head coach Julie Lucier. "We are in a good position heading into our final regular-season meet."

Concordia freshman diver Jana Hedstrom posted the top finishes at the meet as she claimed was in the top 3 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Hedstrom placed third in the 1-meter competition with a score of 343.80 points and was also third in the 3-meter with a final total of 360.05. Teammates Alexa Bateman and Kayla Rauchwarter were fourth and sixth in the 1-meter while senior Cynthia Moss was seventh in the 1-meter and fifth in the 3-meter.

The two-day format at the Dragon/Cobber Invite was similar to that used at the conference championship meet with prelims being staged in the morning and first day and then finals being held in the second session of both days. Concordia had a pair of swimmers qualify for the finals. Kelsey Appert and Jordan Peterson both swam in the finals of the backstroke events.  Appert finished fifth in the 50-yard backstroke with a finals time of 31.54. She also claimed seventh place in the 100-yard backstroke.   Peterson swam a 1:09.91 in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke and finished in sixth place. She was also eighth in the 200-yard backstroke.

Freshman Rachel Aldinger came away with the other top 5 finish for the Cobbers. She clocked a 20:15.45 in the 1650-yard freestyle and claimed fifth place. Aldinger completed her exhausting meet by swimming in both the prelims and the finals of the 500-yard freestyle and finished in eighth place in the finals with a time of 5:47.52.

The other top finishers for the Cobbers in the meet were Greta Titus in the 200-yard backstroke (7th), Greta Nycklemoe in the 200-yard butterfly (7th) and Hannah Winge in the 50-yard breaststroke (7th).

Concordia will participate in a pair of meets on the final weekend of the regular season. The Cobbers will face St. Olaf in a dual meet in Northfield on Friday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. and then compete in the St. Kate's Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
