Hedstrom, Olson And Moss Pace Cobbers At Morris

MORRIS, Minn. (12/01/12)— A pair of freshmen and a senior made headlines in Concordia's dual meet at UM-Morris on Saturday.  Jana Hedstrom and Jordyn Olson were the first-year stars at the meet while senior Cynthia Moss qualified for the MIAC Meet in diving for the first time in her career.

Despite the trio's terrific outing, Concordia still lost to the Cougars 187-110 in the third dual meet of the season for CC. The Cobbers were competing without four athletes who were sidelined with injuries on the day.

Hedstrom and Moss led a strong diving contingent at the meet. Hedstrom won both the 1-meter diving and 3-meter diving events. Hedstrom scored 198.45 in the 1-meter competition and then posted a mark of 200.40 in the 3-meter. Moss was third on the low board and then came away with a fourth-place finish on the high board. Her score of 151.42 in the 1-meter competition helped her punch her ticket to the MIAC Championship Meet for the first time since she switched over from being a swimmer to a diver after her freshman season.

Olson had the most significant mark for the Cobber swim crew. She raced to a 2:19.16 in the 200-yard freestyle to post her career-best time.

Concordia had six different swimmers earn runner-up finishes. Jordan Peterson claimed second in both backstroke events. She swam a 1:09.71 in the 100-yard backstroke and then clocked a 2:30.07 in the 200-yard backstroke. Jasmine Hanson was greased lightning in the 1000-yard freestyle as she posted a second-place finish in a time of 12:43.22. Emily Erickson was second in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 2:39.65. Rachel Aldinger came home in 27.65 in the 50-yard freestyle. Greta Titus was second in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 6:03.84 while Kasey Lyng finished runner-up in te 100-yard butterfly at 1:12.18.

The Cobbers will now have a month break for final exams and the holiday break. Concordia will return to the pool on their annual warm-weather trip. CC will compete in the Cactus Classic in Mesa, Ariz. on Jan. 5 at 1 p.m.
