A Solid St. Paul Weekend

ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/17/12)—Concordia finished off their St. Paul multi-team invite weekend by placing fourth at the Macalester Invite on Saturday. The Cobbers started the back-to-back meet feat by finishing third at the JoAnn Andregg Invite held at St. Thomas on Friday.

Concordia used the two meets as an early-season tune up for their back-to-back-to-back weekend at the MIAC Championship Meet at the end of February. The Cobbers had several quality individual performances at the UST and Macalester Invites and also had numerous career, and season, best times.

The Cobbers started the weekend by posting 10 season best times and five career best marks at the JoAnn Andregg Invite. The other big highlight came from the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Alexis Philbrick, Kelsey Appert, Greta Titus and Amanda Suchanek who swam a 1:48.70 which is the fastest time by any CC quartet this season.

Concordia also had a pair of individuals earn top 5 finishes at the meet. Titus recorded a time of 21:05.5 in the 1650-yard freestyle and finished in fifth place. That time is a season best for Titus. Freshman Jana Hedstrom posted top 5 finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. She scored 189.5 points and was fifth in the 1-meter and had 179.25 points in the 3-meter and finished fourth.

Hedstrom backed up her solid performance on Friday by finishing seventh in the 1-meter event in the eight-team Macalester Invite on Saturday. Hedstrom scored 175.75 points to finish in the top 10 out of 22 divers. She was also 10th in the 3-meter competition with 158.05 points. Hedstrom was topped by teammate Mikkel Engen in the 3-meter event.  Engen placed in eighth place with a final score of 160.10.

Suchanek was in the top 7 in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races. She was sixth in the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 27.19. She then went 1:00.20 in the 100-yard freestyl and was seventh.

A pair of freshmen also had top 10 finishes in the same stroke. Jordan Peterson scored top 10 finishes in the backstroke. She was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.03 and clocked a 2:28.31 and was eighth in the 200-yard backstroke. Like Suchanek, Joleen Baker accomplisher her double in the freestyle.  She went 27.50 in the 50-yard freestyle and was eighth and had a time of 1:00.69 in the 100-yard freestyle and placed ninth.

The top relay performance at the Macalester Invite was turned in by the 400-yard freestyle team of Baker, Peterson, Titus and Philbrick who placed third in a field of 12 with a season-best time of 4:05.94.

The Cobbers will have a two-week break before returning to action when they swim a dual against UM-Morris in Morris on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.
