Freshmen Help Cobbers Dive Into Dual-Meet Schedule

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/03/12)--  Concordia opened its dual-meet season by hosting St. Kate's on Saturday. The Cobbers had three divers qualify for the MIAC Championship Meet and had a pair of freshman own the 50-yard freestyle despite losing to the Wildcats 174-120.

Junior Alexa Bateman and freshmen Mikkel Engen and Jana Hedstrom all qualified for the conference meet in the 1-meter diving event for the Cobbers. Hedstrom finished second in both the voluntary and optional sections of the 1-meter event. She scored 199.15 in the voluntaries and then 139.00 in the optionals. Bateman was fourth in the voluntaries and fifth in the optionals while Engen scored 120.10 points in the optional to finish in fourth place.

Freshmen freestyle sprinters Rachel Aldinger and Joleen Baker posted a 1-2 finish in the glamour event of swimming – the 50-yard freestyle. Aldinger was the only event winner for the Cobbers as she swam a 27.22. Baker was the only other competitor in the event to break the 28-second mark and finished second in a time of 27.95.

Concordia had a pair of second-place finishes in the two relay events in the meet. The Cobber quartet of Jordan Peterson, Kara Shugren, Emily Erickson and Aldinger opened the meet by swimming a 2:02.56 in the 200-yard medley relay.  CC finished off the afternoon by posting a time of 1:49.66 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Aldinger and Baker were joined by Kelsey Appert and Alexis Philbrick to record their first a sub-1:50.00 of the season.

The Cobbers will stay at home and continue with their dual-meet schedule when they host St. Ben's on Friday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.
