Cobbers Close Out Home Campaign

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/25/22)---Concordia finished off the home portion of its 2022 schedule by falling 2-0 to Bethel.

The Cobbers controlled the possession for the majority of the game but couldn't find the back as they outshot the Royals 17-8 in total shots. Bethel had all eight shots go on goal and scored a goal in each half to earn the 2-goal victory.

The loss drops Concordia's overall record to 4-10-2. CC is now 1-7-2 in conference play. The Royals end their losing streak and move to 4-8-3 in all games and 2-6-2 in the MIAC.

The Cobbers held a decided 8-3 advantage in shots in the first half as they spent most of the first 15 minutes of the game in the Bethel end of the field. CC sophomore Chloe Sollom had the best chance for CC in the opening 30 minutes of play when she fired a shot from outside the penalty area that the BU goalie was able to turn over the crossbar.

Bethel scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 30:33 mark against the run of play. They were able to win possession of the ball in the middle of the field and then make a pass to free an attacker on the left wing. She drove the ball into the Cobber penalty area and then fired a shot that went over Concordia goalie Kaitlin Petrich and just under the crossbar.

The Cobbers also had a quality chance late in the first half when Sophia Robinson got behind the Bethel defense inside the penalty area. Robinson was denied just before shooting from 6-yard out when a defender made a last-ditch tackle to stop the potential game-tying goal.

Concordia continued to press for the equalizer, and had several chances from inside the penalty area sail just over the crossbar.

The Royals came up with the all-important "next goal" at the 70:30 mark. The Cobbers had four shots and a corner kick in the final 20-minutes of play but were never able to come up with a goal.

The Cobbers had 10 players register shots with Sollom and Robinson posting four shots each.

Petrich made six saves in goal for CC.
