Second Straight Multiple-Goal 2nd Half Stymies Cobbers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (9/28/22)---For the second straight game, Concordia gave up a group of goals in the second half and fell 3-1.

On Saturday, the Cobbers led 1-0 and then allowed three unanswered and lost. On Wednesday, Concordia was tied at Wis.-Eau Claire but then conceded two goals in 3:46 midway through the final period and dropped the 2-goal decision.

The loss drops the Cobbers' record under the .500 mark for the first time this season. CC is now 3-4-1 in all games. The Blugolds run their unbeaten streak to three games and are now 5-3-1. They are 4-1-1 against MIAC teams.

Eau Claire opened the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute of play. The Cobbers survived the early pressure from the Blugolds and then posted the equalizer in the 36th minute of the first half. Sophomore Amber Weiybe was able to dispossess one of the Eau Claire defenders at the top of the Eau Claire penalty area. She then took a touch towards the middle of the field and fired a shot that found the far right side of the net.

The goal at 35:18 was Weibye's second of the season.

The teams went to the halftime break knotted at 1-1 with Eau Claire holding a 9-4 edge in shots. The Blugolds won the game starting in the 69th minute of play. They netted the game-winning goal at 68:09, and then added the insurance marker at 71:55.

For the game, Eau Claire had a 16-5 advantage in total shots and an 11-4 margin in shots on goal.

Sophia Robinson posted a game-high three total shots with two on frame. Weibye had the other two shots for CC.

Bre Nelson started the game in goal for CC and made seven saves. Kaitlin Petrich played the final 16:01 and stopped a single shot.
