Lawlor's Hat Trick Ignites Offensive Explosion At Morris

MORRIS, Minn. (9/07/22)---Concordia scored six goals in the first 37 minutes against Minn.-Morris and exploded to a 7-2 victory. The Cobbers have now won four straight over the Cougars.

The Cobbers got a hat trick from Grace Lawlor, and a pair of goals from Clara Rooney to earn their second straight win. The seven goals scored is the most in a single game for CC since the 2019 season when they bettered Buena Vista 7-0.

Concordia (2-1-0) wasted little time getting on the board as they scored a pair of goals 24-seconds apart in the sixth minute of play. Amber Weibye scored the opener at 5:24, and then Lawlor netted the first of her three strikes at the 5:48 mark. Kylie Osborn and Chloe Sollum were awarded the assists on the play. For Osborn, it would be the first of her two helpers on the day.

Sophia Robinson scored the eventual game-winning goal at 9:40 with Weibye and Lawlor earning the assists. Lawlor would push the lead to four goals with her second goal of the half at 11:07.

Minn.-Morris (0-3-0) earned their first goal of the game at 18:01, before Lawlor picked up the hat trick at 21:51 and Rooney added the sixth score at 36:29. Freshman Ella Shinn was credited with the assist on the final goal of the first period which was her first collegiate point.

The three goals for Lawlor nearly doubled her career total. The senior from Helena, Mont. Entered the day with four career goals in her first 40 games in maroon and gold.   

Rooney would post the extra point in the 17th minute of the second half. She scored her second goal of the day on an assist from Megan Barnick.       

Concordia finished the game by outshooting Morris 37-4 in total shots and 18-3 in shots on goal. Lawlor, Rooney and Barnick all had five total shots each, with Lawlor and Rooney posting a team-high three shots on goal.

Junior goalie Bre Nelson made one save in goal to record her second straight victory.

Concordia will begin a 2-game home stand when they host Wis.-Stout on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3:30 p.m. The Blue Devils are 0-2-1 on the year.
