Robinson's Corner Gives Cobbers 1-0 Win Over Westminster

LINCOLN, Neb. (9/03/22)---Sophia Robinson's first-half corner kick proved to be the difference in Concordia's 1-0 win over Westminster (Mo.) in the final game of the opening weekend at Neb. Wesleyan.

Robinson curled the corner from the left wing directly into the net to give the Cobbers the only goal it would need as CC ended the weekend with a 1-1 record. Concordia lost 1-0 to host Neb. Wesleyan on Friday night.

Concordia earned a corner midway through the first half when Robinson stepped to the corner and delivered a ball that eluded a group of players at the front post and went inside the back post even though there was a Westminster defender was protecting that area.

The Cobbers controlled most of the play throughout the entire game, and held a 20-10 edge in total shots. CC also had an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Samantha Holmberg led all players with 10 total shots, while Robinson led the team with five shots on frame.

Junior goalie Bre Nelson made four saves to record her third career shutout.

On Friday, the Cobbers had several chances to tie the game after the host Prairie Wolves took a 1-0 lead at the 35:57 mark on a perfectly placed shot over the top of VV goalie Kaitlin Petrich and just under the crossbar.

Concordia would go on to double Neb. Wesleyan in shots at 16-8. NWU held a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Cobbers best chance for the equalizer came in the final 7-minutes of play when freshman Kylee James broke free on the right side of the penalty. Her shot from 8-yards out beat the goalie to the short side but clanged off the goal post and rolled out of the back side of the goal.

Petrich finished the opener with four saves.
