Back At Last

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/08/21)---You'll have to excuse Concordia if they were just happy to be out on a field playing against opponent. The Cobbers laced up the boots for the first time in 492 days as they battled MSU Moorhead in the first game/exhibition of the spring season.

Concordia battled the Division II Dragons through 90 minutes of back-and-forth action but conceded a pair of goals around the halftime break and dropped a 2-0 decision.

The Cobbers' best sustained offensive pressure came in the final 15 minutes of the first half after they gave up an own goal in the 30th minute of play. Concordia then opened up their offensive attack by finding space on the wings and then playing the ball into the middle of the field in front of the Dragon's back line.

One of the best chances on the day came in the final 10 minutes when junior midfielder Lauran Tschider got possession of the ball in the MSUM penalty area and tried to free herself to get a shot. She was able to get past the defender but the ball skidded away and Tschider had to slide and tap at the ball. Her shot slid past the goalie but went just wide of the left post.

Concordia fell behind by two goals in the first five minutes of the second half. The Dragons earned a corner kick on the left side of the field and served the ball to the top of the 6-yard box. One of the MSU M players had her back to the goal and was able to corral the bouncing ball, turn and then flick a shot over the top of the Cobber goalie and into the left side netting.

The Cobbers had chances late in the second half but couldn't come up with a finish. Senior Samantha Dalsin had a quality chance from just outside the penalty area. She was able to break free of a defender and fire an open shot towards the net but the ball sailed past the top left corner of the net.

Concordia split the goalkeeping duties between two first-year athletes. Breanna Nelson played the first half and then gave way to Grace Mork who played the final 45 minutes. Both goalies allowed a single goal.

UP NEXT: Concordia will wait until later in the week to release their full spring schedule as they are still in the process of finalizing their games with MIAC opponents.
