Perfect Non-Conference Campaign

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/29/19)---Concordia finished off an unbeaten non-conference schedule by scoring two goals in each half and downing St. Scholastica 4-1.

The Cobbers had seven non-conference games on their 2019 schedule and went a perfect 7-0-0 in those games. CC also went 4-0 against teams from Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Concordia outscored their non-conference opponents by a combined 26-3 margin.

Senior Karsen Granning accounted for all the scoring in the first half as she scored two goals in a span of 30 seconds. She took possession of a loose ball outside the Scholastica penalty area and then slid home the first goal at 27:44. Granning then fired home a shot off of a cross from wing Kay Franzese at the 28:14 mark to double the Cobbers' lead at 2-0.

Granning's 2-goal first half ups her team-leading goal total to 10. Her total is a single-season career high and is tied for the second most in the MIAC this year. Granning also has 23 total points which also leads Concordia and is the third highest total in the conference.

Concordia would push the lead to four goals when they scored twice in the second half. Senior Kalli Baarstad curled home a shot from the right side of the penalty area just after the break at 47:41 and then freshman Megan Barnick scored her first collegiate goal from the penalty spot at 71:34.

Freshman Grace Lawlor recorded the assist on Baarstad's sweet shot. It was her second helper of the game and third of the season.

St. Scholastica would get a goal with under 15 minutes to play in the game to bring the final total to 4-1.

The Cobbers and Saints had 13 shots each with Concordia holding a 9-7 edge in shots on goal.

Concordia goalie Lexi Jemtrud started the game and played the first 75:35 and made four stops including a pair of goal-saving stops that would have changed the momentum in the game. She earned her seventh win on the year. Erin Larsen finished off the final 14:25 and made two saves.  
 
UP NEXT: Concordia will host a pair of key MIAC games on the week. The Cobbers will face St. Catherine on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. and then square off against Hamline on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
