A Superior Shutout

SUPERIOR, Wis. (9/22/19)---Concordia scored a goal in the second minute of play, never trailed throughout the 90 minutes of play and shutout Wis.-Superior 3-0 in a non-conference game in Superior, Wis.

Concordia has now scored 24 goals in their eight games this season. They are second in the MIAC in goals scored and goals per game (3.00).

Grace Lawlor made her first collegiate goal memorable as she scored the game-winning goal just 1:28 into the first half. Lawlor finished off a cross on the Cobbers' first foray into the Superior penalty area to give Concordia a 1-0 lead before the game was less than two minutes old.

The Cobbers defense made sure that would be all the team needed as they shut down the Yellowjackets offense for the entire 90 minutes. CC only gave up two total shots in the game and didn't concede a corner kick to Superior.

Concordia put the game out of reach in a span of 9:49 in the second half. Kalli Baarstad doubled the Cobbers' lead at 56:05 when she connected on her third goal of the season. Klara Beinhorn closed out the scoring when she took a pass from Lauren Tschider and slotted home a shot from just outside the penalty area. The goal was Beinhorn's fifth of the year and second in as many games on the weekend. She has now scored a goal in three of the past five games.

Tschider earned her second assist in the four games she has played for the Cobbers.

Concordia outshot Superior 24-2 in total shots and 14-2 in shots on goal. Baarstad and Beinhorn combined for 12 of the team's 24 shots. Baarstad tied a season-best with seven shots and Beinhorn added five.

The 24 shots gives the Cobbers 182 for the season which is tops in the MIAC.

Sophomore goalie Lexi Jemtrud stopped both shots she faced to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have six days to prepare for their next conference game. The Cobbers will play at Carleton on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m. The Knights are 4-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the MIAC this season.
