2 Straight Seals Home-Opening Win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/6/19)---Concordia scored two unanswered goals in the second half to break open a 1-1 deadlock at the break and beat Northwestern 3-1.

The victory is the third straight to start the season for the Cobbers. It marks the first time since the 2010 season that Concordia has won three straight at the start of the year.

The Cobbers got on the board first when senior Karsen Granning took a long throw-in from defender Rachel Nemer, raced 30 yards down the left wing and then slotted the ball into the right side of the net. The goal, at the 9:28 mark of the first half, was Granning's second of the season and 10th of her career. Nemer earned her first assist of the season.

Northwestern would tie the game in the final 10 minutes of the first period. The Eagles were able to collect the ball in the penalty area and fire home a shot at the 35:45 mark.

The Cobbers won the game with two goals in a span of 15 minutes in the final frame. Both goals came from assists from senior Kalli Baarstad. Klara Beinhorn was able to head home the eventual game-winning goal after Baarstad crossed the ball from the left wing. The second goal came at 59:23 and tied Beinhorn with Granning for the team lead in goals.

Baarstad then started a play that led to the first collegiate goal for freshman midfielder Sophia Robinson. Granning was also credited with an assist on the tally at 73:51.

Concordia outshot Northwestern 11-2 in total shots and 4-1 in shots on goal. The Cobbers have now outshot their opponents 51-30 on the season.  Granning and Baarstad led all players with three shots each.

CC also held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore Lexi Jemtrud earned her third straight win in goal for the Cobbers.
