Baarstad, Nemer & Sandin Earn Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/09/18)---Concordia junior Kalli Baarstad capped her career season by being named to the MIAC All-Conference Team. Teammates Rachel Nemer and Hannah Sandin were also chosen by the league coaches for the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.

Senior Morgan Hluchy was chosen by Concordia as the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Concordia has now had at least one player earn All-Conference honors for 30 consecutive seasons.

Baarstad, Nemer and Sandin all earned conference postseason honors for the first time in their careers.

Baarstad, Nemer, Sandin and Hluchy helped Concordia finish with a 7-8-3 overall record and a 3-6-2 mark in conference play. The Cobbers finished in seventh place, just one spot out of the playoffs, in the final league standings. Both win totals are an improvement from the 2017 season.

Baarstad was the offensive story for the Cobbers in 2018 as she finished the year with a team-best 10 goals and four assists for 24 points in the 18 overall contests. In league play she had four goals and three assists for 11 points. All three totals were team bests. Baarstad also had three game-winning goals on the season, including two game winners against MIAC opponents.

Baarstad had at least one point in seven of the 11 conference games and scored a goal in five contests.

Baarstad finished the year ranked seventh in the MIAC in scoring in overall games and eighth in league games.

Nemer was one of the leaders of the Cobber defense who posted five shutouts during the year and limited opposing offenses to one or fewer goals on nine occasions.

Nemer also found her scoring touch in 2018 as she had two goals and an assist for three points after recording only one assist in 2017. Nemer also scored the game-winning goal in the Cobbers' 3-1 win against Wis.-Superior.   

Sandin was also one of the cornerstones of the Cobber defense. She was able to stop opposing team's attacks in the midfield and helped Concordia post the five blankings on the season.

In addition to her stellar play on defense, Sandin was also a big threat on offense with her throw-in capabilities. She regularly put the other team's defense in danger with her consistently long throw. Her ability to throw the ball into the middle of the penalty area helped Concordia create numerous chances and led to her three assists on the season.
