Superior Non-Conference Finale

STORY LINE: Concordia raced out to a 3-0 lead five minutes into the second half and went on to beat Wis.-Superior 3-1 in the second game of a conference/non-conference road doubleheader weekend for the Cobbers. CC dropped a 3-2 double OT heart-breaker on Saturday at St. Catherine but then rebounded with the two-goal victory in Superior, Wis.

RECORDS: The Cobbers' victory once again levels their overall record. CC is now 5-5-3 on the season. The five wins match the team's win total from 2017. Wis.-Superior has their 1-game win streak stopped and is now 3-8-1 in all games.

NON-CONFERENCE ENDS: The game on Sunday was the Cobbers' final non-conference contest of the year. CC finished with a 4-2-1 record against non-league opponents in 2018.

SHE CAN'T STOP SCORING: Cobber sophomore defender Rachel Nemer didn't score a goal in the first 27 games of her collegiate goal – and only had six total shots. In the last four games she has scored twice and has eight shots. Nemer scored the game-winning goal on Sunday and led all players with five shots.

TEAM LEADER STARTS SCORING SPREE: Leave it to the Cobbers' leading goal scorer to get Concordia on the board first. Kalli Baarstad added to her team-best goal total when she started the scoring at 11:04 of the first half. Baarstad fired a shot from the left side of the penalty area which beat the goalie to the far post. It was her seventh goal of the season and 17th overall point. Both totals are team highs and the tops in a single season for her career. Baarstad is currently tied for fourth in the MIAC in goals scored and is tied for sixth in overall points.

OCEAN'S 11: Cobber sophomore Taylor Barth finished off the scoring with her first collegiate goal at the 50:26 mark. She fired a shot over the top of the goalie from 20 yards out to become the 11th Concordia player to score a goal this season. CC had nine players with at least one goal in 2017.

SHOOTING GALLERY: Concordia put up 27 shots on Sunday. That is the second highest shot total of the season and the third time this year they have had at least 20 shots in a game. The Cobbers held an 11-1 edge in shots on goal against the Yellowjackets.          

UP NEXT: Concordia will have almost a full week off to prepare for their home conference game against  St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. The Oles are 7-2-2 in all games and 4-1-1 in the MIAC. They tied Macalester 0-0 on Saturday.
