STORY LINE: Concordia held a decided advantage in most offensive categories but couldn't find a game winner in the final 23 minutes of regulation or either overtime and finished with a 1-1 double overtime tie at Macalester. The Cobbers conceded the opening goal midway through the first half but then countered with the game-tying goal 20 minutes into the second period as they are now unbeaten in their last two conference games.
RECORDS: The Cobbers continue with their .500 overall record as they are now 4-4-1 on the year. CC is 1-2-1 in conference play and their four league points tied for sixth place in the MIAC standings. The Scots are now 1-4-2 in all games and 0-2-2 in league play.
ALMOST AN UNLIKELY GAME WINNER: An unlikely goal scorer almost won the game in the first overtime for the Cobbers. Defender Rachel Nemer was played the ball at the 30-yard mark after a CC corner kick and she proceeded to launch a shot that sailed over the goalie and was starting to dip under the crossbar. Unfortunately for Concordia the Macalester goalie was able to reach back and tip the ball over the bar before it landed over the goal line. It would have been Nemer's first career goal and it was her first shot on goal of the season.
RAISING THE BAAR: Cobber junior Kalli Baarstad continued her career season by tying the score at the 66:04 mark. It was Baarstad's team-leading fifth goal of the season and she upped her Cobber best point total to 12. Both her goal and point totals are single-season career highs for Baarstad. She is currently tied for fourth in the MIAC in goals scored in all games and fourth in total points. Baarstad also has 15 shots on goal this season which is tied for sixth in the conference.
STAT SUCCESS: Concordia had an edge over the Scots in total shots, shots on goal and corner kicks. The Cobbers outshot Macalester 12-6 in total shots and held a 8-2 margin in shots on goal. CC also had six more corner kicks in the game. Kalli Baarstad led all players with five shots – all of which were on goal.
UP NEXT: Concordia will host Carleton on Saturday, Sept. 29 as part of the annual Homecoming celebration. The Knights are currently leading the MIAC with a 2-0-1 league mark and are 5-1-2 in all games.
