A Whole Lotta Goals

STORY LINE: Concordia scored four goals in a span of 6:28 in the first 17 minutes of their non-conference game at Minn.-Morris and went on to beat the Cougars 9-0. The Cobbers got a first-half hat trick from forward Karsen Granning and then two more goals from defender Katie Gillette in the second half as they posted a shutout for the second straight day.

RECORDS: Concordia is now 3-1 on the season while the Cougars fall to 0-4 on the season.

SCORING EXPLOSION: The nine goals for the Cobbers are the most in a single game since the 2013 season when Concordia beat Dominican (Ill.) 10-1. Concordia has now scored 16 goals on the season which is three more than they scored in all of last season. CC has scored at least one goal in all four games in 2018 and has at least three goals in three of the four games.

ANOTHER SPECIAL K: While the Special K duo of Kalli Baarstad and Kirsten Bokinskie has doing most of the scoring for Concordia in 2018 it was another pair of "K"'s that stole the show on Sunday. Junior Karsen Granning scored three of the team's first four goals of the game and added an assist on the goal she didn't score. Katie Gillette then took over in the second half when she notched the first two goals of her collegiate career. And just when you think there wasn't another Cobber whose first name starts with a K who could score a goal, sophomore Klara Beinhorn up and scores her first goal of the season.

SPECIAL K SEASON STATS: Of the 16 goals scored by the Cobbers this season, 12 have been scored by players whose first names start with the letter "K".

THAT'S A WHOLE LOTTA SHOTS: Concordia put up 38 total shots against Minn.-Morris and had 19 shots on goal. The 38 total shots is the most in a single game since 2013 when they hung 47 on Dominican.

SHUTOUT WEEKEND: The Cobbers put up back-to-back shutouts over the weekend and have only allowed two goals in the first four games of the season. Senior goalie Maddy Reed has three shutouts on the season and is third in the MIAC in goals against average with a 0.50 mark.

MIAC LEADERS: Concordia is second in the MIAC this season in total goals scored (16) and goals per game (4.00). CC is also tied for the lead in corner kicks taken (33).

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to take their goal-scoring success into conference play. The Cobbers open up their MIAC schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they play at St. Benedict. The Bennies are 1-2 this season and are coming off a 3-2 win over Wartburg. One of the two losses for CSB came at Christopher Newport (Va.) who is coached by former Cobber head coach Dan Weiler.
