Dead Ball Dominance

STORY LINE: Concordia scored three goals off of "dead balls" and blanked St. Scholastica 3-0 in the home opener. Kirsten Bokinskie scored a pair of goals in the first half and then Kalli Baarstad added the third in the eighth minute of the second half to give the Cobbers their second 3-0 win of the season.

RECORDS: Concordia is now 2-1 on the year while the Saints fall to 0-4 on the season.

CORNER KICK QUEEN: Kalli Baarstad takes the corner kicks for the Cobbers and has now scored directly from the kick in two games this year. She scored off the CK in the opener and then duplicated the feat on Saturday when she floated the dead ball serve from the right corner which went directly into the net.

SCORING TOUCH: Kirsten Bokinskie entered the game without having scored a goal in her previous 3-plus years at Concordia. She then scored two goals against St. Scholastica. The first came from a throw-in at the 14:55 mark and then she doubled her total 7:22 later when she finished off the serve from a corner kick.

SPECIAL K'S: Concordia has scored seven goals this season and six have come from either Kalli (Baarstad) or Kirsten (Bokinskie).

REED RAMBLINGS: Senior goalie Maddy Reed earned her second shutout of the season. She stopped six shots and lowered her season GAA to 0.62. Reed now has 11 shutouts in her career.

UP NEXT: Concordia won't have a long time to savor their first home win as they will travel to Morris to take on Minn.-Morris on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars are 0-3 on the year.
