Dostal & Gillette Honored By MIAC

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/09/17)----Concordia had a pair of players earn MIAC All-Conference postseason honors as selected by the league coaches.

Senior midfielder Kayla Dostal was named to the MIAC All-Conference Team while junior defender Katie Gillette earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Sophomore Kalli Baarstad was chosen by Concordia to represent the team on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Concordia has now had at least one player earn All-Conference honors for 29 consecutive seasons. The three players helped the Cobbers post a 5-10-3 overall record and a 2-8-1 mark in conference play.

Dostal earns MIAC postseason honors for the first time in her collegiate career. She was the team's force in the middle of the field. Dostal, who started all 11 conference games at central midfield, scored one of the four goals in league play for the Cobbers. She was second on the team in shots on goal in MIAC contests.

While her statistical numbers didn't overwhelm, her hard work and ability to control the center part of the field, were the reasons she was chosen as an All-Conference performer. Dostal was a two-way player who routinely broke up opposing team's attacks in the middle of the field and also acted as a link between the defense and attacking players on offense.

Gillette earns her second straight MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honor. She was the leader of the defense for the Cobbers. As the team's starting central defender she helped Concordia hold league opponents to under two goals in all but three MIAC games. Gillette also helped Concordia record three shutouts during the league campaign – two of which were 0-0 double overtime ties.

Gillette's defensive prowess helped the Cobbers finish sixth in the fewest shots allowed in conference games and the team had the seventh best goals against average during the year.
