Double Overtime Heartbreak

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/25/17)---For the second time in the past five days Concordia dropped a 1-0 decision against a conference team.

On Saturday the Cobbers lost 1-0 to league-leading Augsburg in regulation and then on Wednesday they fell 1-0 to Bethel in double overtime.

Concordia held a 4-2 advantage in shots on the goal but couldn't find the back of the net and lost for the second straight game. The Cobbers are now 5-10-2 overall and 2-8-0 in the MIAC. Bethel wins for the fourth time in the last five games and moves to 9-6-2 in all games and 4-5-1 in league play.

Neither team was able to generate a consistent offensive threat with the game being played in the middle of the field for the majority of the 102 minutes played.

The Cobbers' best chances came from dead balls and off of long throw-ins from freshman Hannah Sandin. Bethel had only one shot on goal until the game-winner which came at the 102:03 mark.

The game-winning goal came after neither team was able to get a shot on goal in the first overtime session. Bethel collected the ball inside the Cobber penalty area and fired a shot that was deflected and rebounded straight to one of their attackers. The Royal attacker then fired a shot that grazed the inside of the close post and slid into the goal.

Senior Rachel Osmundson had two total shots in the game to lead the CC offense. Osmundson, Kalli Baarstad, Klara Beinhorn and Morgan Hluchy all had shots on frame for Concordia.

Cobber goalie Maddy Reed made a single save but did a great job of controlling the penalty area all game long.
