A Costly Economical First Half

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/10/17)---Concordia allowed two goals on three shots in the first half and lost to regionally-ranked St. Thomas 3-0.

The Cobbers conceded a goal on the first shot of the game in the fourth minute of play and the second o the third shot in the 22nd minute and lost for the second time in four days. The defeat drops Concordia's record to 2-5-0 in conference play and 4-7-1 in all games.

The Tommies win for the fourth time in the last five games and are 9-2-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the MIAC.

The first half was an even affair with the difference coming from the two well-placed shots to the right side of the net. The first goal on the first shot of the game at 3:17. A Tommie attacker collected the ball at the top of the penalty area on the left side. She then took a touch into the middle of the field and let fly a shot that found the upper right corner of the net.

The second goal came from the top of the penalty area. A St. Thomas player found herself in possession of the ball in the middle of the field. She fired a shot through the Cobber defense that found the back of the net after it rolled just inside the right post.

Concordia's best chance of the game came when senior Kayla Dostal had a clear shot from 25 yards out from goal in the middle of the field in the 40th minute of play. Unfortunately for the Cobbers, Dostal's lofted shot was collected just in front of the goal line by the Tommie keeper.

St. Thomas' third goal of the game came with only 4-seconds left on the clock. The Tommies were awarded a corner kick in the waning seconds and proceeded to finish the game by scoring directly off the dead ball.

The Tommies outshot Concordia 13-2 in overall shots and 10-1 in shots on goal.

Cobber goalie Maddy Reed made seven saves in the 90 minutes of play.

TOUGH TRIO: The 3-0 loss marked the first time all season that Concordia has allowed more than two goals in a game.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will hit the road for a pair of games on the weekend. The Cobbers will play a conference game at St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. They will then head to Wisconsin to take on Wis.-Stout on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
