Hayes Continues All-Region Tradition

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/10/15)—Concordia senior defender Sadie Hayes finished off her career by earning National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region honors.

Hayes was named to the NSCAA All-North Region Third Team. The award follows her MIAC All-Conference selection and is the first All-Region honor for Hayes.

Hayes becomes the 10th Cobber player in the last four years to earn All-Region honors. Concordia has had at least one All-Region honoree for 12 straight years – the longest streak of any school in the conference.

The award also marks the sixth straight year a Cobber defensive player has won an All-Region honor. All-American Libby Fransdal earned three straight All-Region awards. Before Fransdal, goalie Ali Nelson was named to the All-Region team in 2011 and defender Erika Swenson earned the award in 2010.    

Hayes was the central figure in the Concordia defense in 2015. She helped the team secure its 13th consecutive trip to the MIAC playoffs. The Cobbers finished the season with a 12-8 overall record. 

With Hayes patrolling the middle of the Cobber defense, Concordia recorded four shutouts including a 1-0 victory against Macalester in the quarterfinals of the MIAC playoffs. The Cobbers finished the year with a 1.63 goals against average.

The biggest difference in Hayes' game in 2015 came on the offensive end where she put up career numbers in goals scored and total points. She had three goals during the year after only recording a single score in her first three seasons in maroon and gold. Hayes scored in back-to-back-to-back games including goals against MIAC opponents St. Mary's and Carleton. He header tally against the Cardinals proved to be the game winner in the team's 3-1 win.
