No Treats In Regular-Season Finale

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/31/15)—Concordia found no treats in their game at St. Catherine on Halloween. The Cobbers conceded the game-winning goal in the 17th minute of play and were shutout for the first time in 12 games as they lost 1-0 to the Wildcats.

The loss ends a five-game win streak for the Cobbers and puts an end to the regular season. Concordia will now enter the MIAC playoffs as the No.6 seed and play at No.3-seed Macalester on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.

The Cobbers are now 11-7-0 in all games and finish the conference campaign with a 6-5-0 record. CC tied for sixth place in the MIAC standings but earn a spot in the conference tournament for the 13th straight season because of their victory over Carleton earlier in the year.

St. Catherine wins for the fourth straight game and is now 12-5-1 in all games and 7-4-0 in the MIAC. They enter the league playoffs as the No.5 seed and will play at Augsburg in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Concordia started the game with the momentum and had the first two shots on goal before St. Catherine posted the game winner on their first shot on goal at the 16:42 mark.

The rest of the first half went back and forth from end to end. Both teams had seven total shots in the half and both had four shots on goal.

The Cobbers had the edge in the second half as the Wildcats were content to protect their one-goal lead. Concordia wound up outshooting SCU 8-4 in the final period. The Cobbers best session of offensive chances came 10 minutes into the second half. Alexandra Jones and Paige McCullough fired shots on goal but were denied by Wildcat goalie Danielle Mendez.

Jones led all players with five total shots in the game. McCullough added four. Both players had three shots on goal.

Concordia goalie Elizabeth Bitzan made five saves in goal. Mendez finished with nine stops on the day.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Cobbers will face the Scots on Tuesday with the winner earning a spot in the MIAC semifinals. Concordia lost to Macalester 2-0 earlier in the season in a game played in Moorhead. CC is 8-7-6 in conference tournament games.
