Home Field Disadvantage

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/26/15)—Concordia has flipped the idea of "home field advantage" in 2015. The Cobbers gave up a pair of first-half goals against St. Olaf and lost 3-1. Concordia, who has posted all four of its wins this year on the road, is now 0-2 at home.

In the home opener last weekend, Concordia gave up two goals in the first half and lost to Macalester by a pair of scores. The script was nearly the same as the Cobbers gave up two goals in the first 15:12 against St. Olaf and lost by two.

Unlike the opener, Concordia was able to get to within a goal late in the first half and then held the majority of play in the second period before giving up a late score.

Betsy Halvorson scored her first collegiate goal at the 41:19 mark to get CC within one at 2-1. Halvorson took a corner kick from the left wing and the ball got cleared out to defender Katie Gillette. Gillette then played the ball back to Halvorson who took several dribbles and then fired a shot into the far right corner of the net.

The Cobbers then pounded the Olaf defensive end in the second half but couldn't come up with the equalizer. Several times a Concordia attacker got behind the Ole defense on a through ball only to have the wind-aided pass roll to the St. Olaf goalie over the end line.

Concordia wound up outshooting the Oles 8-1 in the second half of play. For the game the Cobbers held a 13-5 edge in total shots and a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Emily Wendorff had a game-high six shots and now has 25 for the season. She has had at least four shots in three straight games.

CC goalie Elizabeth Bitzan made one save in goal.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Cobbers will head back on the road to hopefully carry on their successful away record. Concordia will play at St. Thomas on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.
