Soccer Teams Earn Academic Award

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/23/15)—For the second consecutive season the Concordia men's and women's soccer teams both earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award. The Cobbers were one of only 208 schools which had both their men's and women's programs recognized.

The award, which encompasses all of NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA schools, is awarded to teams who posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year. In all, a total of 859 college soccer teams (305 men, 554 women) earned the soccer coaches academic award.

The Cobber men's team finished the 2014-15 season with a team grade point average of 3.21. The Concordia women earned the award by carrying a 3.55 GPA. CC was one of seven men's programs in the MIAC to earn the award while the women's team was one of nine conference schools to earn the recognition.

The women's team improved their overall team GPA by 0.05 this year after earning the award in 2013-14 with a team GPA of 3.50. It is the seventh time in the past eight years that the women's program has earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

The Cobber women's team continues to have success on the field as well. Concordia went 13-5-3 last year and earned their seventh overall NCAA Tournament appearance. CC also made the MIAC playoffs for the 12th straight season after finishing conference play with an 8-1-2 record.

The 3.21 GPA posted by the Cobber men's team is a program best and 0.21 higher from last year's mark when they earned the NSCAA award. Concordia has now earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award in seven of the past eight years.
