Time To Start Another Streak

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/15/14)—This time there would be no overtime heroics or second-half equalizers. Concordia finally ran into an immovable object as they lost 2-0 at Bethel and lost for the first time in conference play.

A goal in the first five minutes of the first half and then another towards the end of the opening period put an end to the Cobbers' 10-game unbeaten streak. Concordia is now 11-2-1 in all games and 6-1-1 in league. Despite the loss, CC remains on top of the conference standings. A loss by Carleton at Macalester keeps Concordia atop the MIAC standings by a single point over St. Ben's.

Concordia conceded the goal in the first five minutes and then flooded the Bethel half of the field with possession. The Cobbers were unable to connect passes and get clear chances around the BU penalty area for most of the game.

The Cobbers continued to press forward in the second half and the final 20 minutes of play was spent exclusively in the Bethel end of the field. The Royals were able to get players behind the ball and keep the CC offense contained to the outside and finished with the two-goal win.

Concordia outshot Bethel 20-7 in total shots for the game. The Cobbers also had a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Senior Libby Fransdal led all players with five total shots and a pair of shots on goal. Elizabeth Robinson and Paige McCullough also had two shots on goal for CC.

Elizabeth Bitzan made two saves in goal for the Cobbers.

Concordia will look to start another unbeaten streak when they play their final non-conference game of the season. The Cobbers will travel to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Loras on Monday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
