Goals And Shots Start To Pour In Win At Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. (9/20/14)—The offense for No.16-ranked Concordia is starting to kick into high gear. After failing to put up crooked numbers in the first three games of the year, the Cobbers have strung together four straight multiple-goal games and on Saturday they busted out a season-high four goals in a 4-1 win at Gustavus.

In addition to their top goal output of the year, Concordia posted their second highest shot total of 2014. Both numbers gave the Cobbers a comfortable showing against the Gusties.

The win is the fourth straight for Concordia and sixth in the first seven games of the season. It also keeps the Cobbers unbeaten in MIAC play. CC is now 6-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the MIAC. The Gusties are still searching for their first win of the year and move to 0-4-2 in all games and 0-1-1 in the conference.

Elizabeth Robinson led the Concordia scoring spree. She had a goal in each half and is now tied for the team in goals with 3. Her first-half nugget came from well outside the Gustavus penalty area and put Concordia up 2-0.

Senior midfielder Marta Prosinski got the Cobbers on the board in the 14th minute of play when she took a pass from Paige McCullough and slotted home her first goal of the season. Robinson's long-range laser then gave CC a two-goal cushion at the 30:25 mark.

Concordia would score the first two goals of the second half before Gustavus finished off the scoring with a goal in the 74th minute of play. Freshman Kayla Dostal picked up her first collegiate goal at 63:24. Robinson then put the Cobbers up 4-0 less than eight minutes later when she banged home the brace.  Morgan Holm earned the assist on the play and now has three points on the year.

The Cobbers wound up outshooting Gustavus 17-6 in overall shots and 9-4 in shots on goal. Concordia junior goalie Elizabeth Bitzan started the game, played the first 82:48. She made two saves in collecting her seventh win of the year. Sarah Fleissner finished off the game for CC and made one save in her first minutes of the 2014 season.  Gustie goalie Caroline Olson made five saves for the full 90 minutes.

Concordia will have little time to relish the road win. CC is slated to host regional rival Wis.-Eau Claire on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.
