Prosinski's Second Straight Big Goal Pops Pipers

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/12/13)—It took Laura Prosinski 10 games to score her first goal of the season. She doubled that total in the very next game and helped Concordia beat Hamline 1-0 in St. Paul on Saturday.

Prosinki's goal at 31:24 proved to be the game winner as the Cobbers ran their unbeaten streak to three games. Concordia is now 8-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play. CC is now atop the league standings with 16 points but has one more game played than second-place St. Ben's.

The goal in the first half for Prosinski was the second straight big goal for the junior midfielder. She netted the game-tying goal in the second half in the Cobbers 1-1 double overtime tie with Augsburg on Monday.

Concordia had only three shots in the first 30 minutes of play before Prosinski scored in the 32nd minute. Freshman Emily Wendorff had a pair of shots and defender Libby Fransdal added a third. Prosinski got CC on the board on an assist from Wendorff. It was Wendorff's second assist on the year.

The Cobbers outshot the Pipers 5-3 in total shots for the first 45 minutes in a game that was played in between the penalty areas.

Concordia held a more decided edge in shots and possession in the second half. CC had a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Hamline almost tied the game in the final 10 minutes when they had a shot hit the post at the 80:50 mark.

The Cobbers finished the game with a 14-9 advantage in total shots and an 11-8 margin in shots on goal. Concordia keeper Elizabeth Bitzan stopped all eight shots she faced to earn her sixth shutout of the season. She also lowered her goals against average to 0.73 on the year. She currently leads the MIAC in goals against average and shutouts in league games.

Concordia returns home to host Bethel on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m. as they try to stay on top of the conference standings.
