Robinson's Trick Gives Cobbers A 3-0 Treat

FARGO, N.D. (10/05/13)—Elizabeth Robinson scored three goals in the first 45:25, including a pair just :18 seconds apart, and helped Concordia beat St. Mary's 3-0 on Saturday.

Robinson's three tallies were a part of a 20-shot attack for the Cobbers. Concordia has now won five of its last six games. CC moves to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play and tied atop the MIAC standings.

Concordia was able to control possession and pace of play for most of both halves. The Cobbers had a three-shot barrage around the 10-minute mark before Robinson got CC on the board with a goal at 20:22 and then another at 20:40. Laura Prosinski hit the crossbar at 10:40 and then Jamie St. Germain and Gina Weiss both had good looks at the net before Concordia got on the board.

Robinson scored her first goal of the game when she received a drop pass from freshman Emily Wendorff at the top of the penalty area. Robinson then hammered a shot under the crossbar almost directly in the middle of the net. Concordia then regained possession on the following restart and St. Germain found Robinson alone in front of goal and Robinson buried a bouncing shot for her second goal in :18 seconds.

Concordia took a 2-0 lead into the break and then Robinson struck for her third goal of the game :25 seconds into the second half. Laura Prosinski centered the ball to the top of the 6-yard box and Robinson reached the ball just before the SMU keeper and was able to knock both the ball and the goalie into the goal.

Robinson's hat trick gives her a team-leading eighth goal of the season. She also has a pair of assists to give her 18 points for the year. Robinson has six goals in conference play and currently leads the MIAC in that category.

Concordia put up seven more shots on goal in the final 44 minutes of play but was never able to come up with another score. The closest chance came when freshman Paige McCullough hit the post in the 84th minute of play. The Cobbers were also able to get many of their reserve players on the field for an extended amount of playing time.

Concordia held a decided 20-2 advantage in total shots and 12-2 edge in shots on goal. It is the third time in the last five games that CC has put up at least 20 shots in a game.

Cobber goalie Elizabeth Bitzan made two saves and picked up her fifth shutout of the season.

Concordia will have a short turnaround period as they will play fellow MIAC leader Augsburg on Monday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at St. Cloud State. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday, Oct. 2 but was postponed after a lightning storm went through the Minneapolis area at the start of the contest.
